Default Club Sport Steering Wheel

I'm finally putting this on tomorrow. Wish me luck, I'm aiming to avoid having an airbag light problem by switching to a pre airbag turn signal switch and cruise control assembly.

And yes, my CS wheel has the same crooked embossed Porsche crest-I ordered one of those AJUSA badges to cover it. Saw one like that last week on that sweet slantnose turbo at the Rennlist meet last Saturday, so I'm going that route.

Damian,
Check out Tom Pultz's website regarding the CS wheel installation. It will probably help you out. You do not need to switch turn signal assemblies. What you have to do is properly disable your airbags at the controller to avoid getting the light and that doesn't really have anything to do with the turn signal/cruise control assembly.

All I did for my 1991 S2 cab was follow Tom's procedure, it worked like a charm.

Max, thanks for the tip but apparently there are differences with the S2 and 968 in the connections. (Different colored wires, etc.) I don't want to cut anything, as his procedure requires. If I ever need to throw the old wheel back on I want it to be plug n play.

We have at least one 968.netter who managed to have it work using the technique I describe.

I had that wheel...and wound up selling it because it was too thick around the 10 and 2 areas. Have you played with it before you go through the trouble of installing?

Yup, I'm digging it. It's funny, originally I thought it was smaller than the stock wheel, but the illusion comes from the extra thickness. Sport wheel, sport seats, sport sways, sport springs, call me Mr. Sporty.

Also, the last remnants of the wood dash are coming out at the same time, thank God.

Good! Wood in a yellow car is just not right!
I swore the CS wheel was smaller too! Thicker INSIDE makes it look smaller.

I happen to really like the Porsche OEM airbag wheel. Thick, and classic.

Yeah, Andy sold his steering wheel to me. I still don't understand how changing the turn signal/cruise control assembly will obviate the need to cut or jumper wires in the SRS system but I hope it works for you. I think you will really like the CS wheel. I love mine and I don't miss that stupid airbag at all.

I've got the AJUSA "930S" wheel also...I like the thicker areas around 10 and 2 o'clock. The whole wheel has a more substantial feel to it than the stock wheel, and the looks are awesome. Kind of like putting 996 rims on the exterior, it seems to bring the car forward in time in its appearance.

On my 91 S2 w/ airbags, it was pretty simple to swap in a non-airbag switch set, wire the horn lead into the white mulitpin connector, and jump the airbag system cable in the passenger's floorboard area to kill the "!" light. YMMV Al

91S2 How does the diameter size compare to the stock wheel . I have an 87 944S with the factory NON airbag wheel. i have heard that some of these sport wheels are small enough to inhibit a clear view of all the3 guages.
Do you know the mm of your 930S wheel as compared to your stock one?

So how does everyone like the AJUSA wheel? I thought about getting it, but wasn't sure about the wheel leather not being just one piece. How are the overlap seams? Will they hold up over time?

Damian, I've been toying with the idea of a stick-on crest badge to cover the embossed crest (I have the CS wheel). Can you post a pic when done?

Crushingday, I'm assuming the AJUSA wheel is the same 14"/360mm dia as the CS wheel as it looks identical. IIRC this is the same diameter as the 4-spoke pre-airbag wheel fitted to the 944S.

Alex, I'll put a pic up after the I receive the badge. FWIW, the leather is stitched differently on the Porsche wheel from the AJ wheel.

I love the AJ USA wheel on my 951. Its held up so far, but I only have about 5k miles on it. Also, I pretty much always wear driving gloves anymore, to keep the leather nice, not because I am a poser... lol

Regards,

It's in, and I'm loving it. Having more meat to hold onto lets me feel the road better, and I feel better driving on curvy roads. Turns out although no steering column wire cutting needed doing with the other switch assembly, the airbag computer switch had to be nipped. All in all a great mod.
