It can be done much neater: four A123 LiFePo4 cells (prismatic, 5mm thick and ~120x200 mm) packed into sawn-off battery casing.

20Ah and can easily crank Jaguar 4.0 Supercharged V8 in winter (tested). 20Ah in LiFe cells is the same as 60Ah in lead acid battery because you can use only 30% or the capacity of the lead acid battery, otherwise you ruin it.

Hmmm, 100 USD for the batteries : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Recommend-4x...2594b0&vxp=mtr

And a controller that costs a few bucks.
A ruined lead acid battery and one to two hours of assembly

Maybe this controller can be used ? : http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMS-LiFe-4-S...item4acee5bdd1

Apparently Lifepo4 and super capacitors are different in that lifepo4 are still batteries whereas super capacitors are rated in farad. super capacitors are 95% efficient whereas lifepo4 are only 90% efficient (still very impressive considering traditional batteries are only 60% efficient at max)

I like the hacked up battery casing, but I will be going with super capacitors on the inside

I'm not sure about supercaps, but LiFePO4 batteries can also get a bit dodgy if subjected to high voltages. They're getting popular in motorbike custom builds since they're so much smaller and lighter, but special care has to be taken to make sure the voltage regulator is operating normally. They are much more sensitive to overvoltage, and even around 15V have been known to smoke. Here's a thread of a guy who's bike looked like it almost caught fire as a result of a bad regulator + LiFePO4 battery

^ but with the LiFePo4´s it would be 1/10th of the cost of the Porsche Motorsport one
