Should I bake my wheels in the oven?
I recently refinished a set of phone dials. I did the last of the paint work on July 24. I have planned on letting the wheels sit until the end of August before waxing and mounting tires. However, I was thinking . . . would baking each wheel in the oven for a couple of hours have the same effect (or better) as waiting six weeks?
If so, then what temp and for how long?

hmmm..... I've heat cycled other painted parts in the oven before, but not wheels. Really low temp 200F max for 60 min?? Anyone care to comment on heat cycling wheels? I don't thinkyou would do any harm to the paint.
This kinda reminds me of people I know who would clean car parts in the dishwasher.... or my friend who restored a 60's Ducatti in the bathroom / bathtub of his 21st floor apartment.

I was going to mention the same thing as Danno. The wheels are heat tempered, and heating them up can brittle them. You don't want to crack one of them babies on the highway.
I had thought about powdercoating my PD's, but I am gonna paint just because of the heat issue. Even using an IR lamp, they would still get hot. Most powerdcoated wheels are steel, and if they are AL, they are not tempered when made, since the heating from powder coating takes care of that.

I was just on the track Sunday through Tuesday. I have cookie cutters on the car. I didn't test the rears for comparison, but after 25 minutes on the track the front wheels were very hot to the touch. You could not leave a finger on the surface for more than a second.
I'm quite sure they were close to, if not hotter than, 200 F.

If you do go with the over, keep in on the bottom rack and remember to flip. This will give you an even golden brown color that is sure to please the eye. Garnish lightly, and don't forget the Hot Sauce!
