how to intstall sunroof gears, the long way.
i decided the other day to install the gears in my sunroof, since they decided to eat themselves.
1. pull out headliner cover behind sunroof.
2.pull out screws that hold on the little black gearbox cover.
3.grab gear w/ pliers and pull out, noticing how the teeth are ALL gone.
4.grease new gear and push into place, reinstall cover.
5.turn on key, hit sunroof switch, listen to the grind of the new gears teeth.
6.Cuss, then go to friends house for more gears.
7.reinstall gear, set risers alittle higher to clear roof this time.
8.Cuss again, roof still wont lock, time to set risers alittle higher.
9.Roof locks, wont close all the way, cuss some more.
10.set stoppers alittle lower, hear gears once again. Go to porsche for more gears.
well, it went something like that, i think i got it now, just need to adjust the microswitch.

Yep, did the same thing on Sunday.... crunched 2 more new gears.... ordered 6 more from Paragon....
It's the limit switch and slip clutch that need adjusting. Just did it on my son's car. Adjusted the slip clutch so that it does NOT strip the gears now.

BTDT although I think I only killed 1 or 2 gears...certaintly a learning experience! And a cheap one too...
It's all in the slipper clutch and lining up the arms...

Weight savings. The entire motor and mechanisim.
As to how I've only posted it like 5 times in all the other sunroof threads. Get the latches and start fiddling. It's pretty self evident.
Can we combine all these sunroof threads?

****! sunroof gears. I've eaten too many of them. I think I'm going to go have some billet aluminum ones CNC'd. Anyone else interested?
Or perhaps does someone have a play by play on the *right* way to do it somewhere?

Billet gears might put more expenive parts in jepardy of breakage. I thought clarks-garage had something on it. BTW, from your signature, you must either love huntley or had a bad association with them or an accusation. geez
