Yes, we can do it on any 944 rod; factory or not. We've already done a set of Carrillo's for someone.

I'm going to bump this because I believe it's a huge improvement in 944 rod bearing (and consequently engine) life. I've made the fixtures, developed the process, and bought the bearings. Honestly, I expected a lot more interest than has been shown. Those of you that decided against it, please let me know what your hesitation is. I really thought I was providing a service to the 944 community. Thanks.

Mike,

I am a well. I'm in on my new motor. After the WG race, where more then a few 44's. had engine failures, this sounds like a no brainer.

Michael,

Prolly speaking out of turn here but maybe the issue has to do with it not being done by "their guy"? I am more familiar with hot rodders and drag racing, but I suspect the issue is similar. Everyone has their favorite engine shop and unless they absolutely can't get the job done by their shop they won't deviate.

Or it could be that other apps have figured out what you doing. I know that old-time chevy guys used a similar solution to overcome bearing failure due to rod stretch. They rebore the big end with a 2-thousandths offset and recut for the bearing of choice.

Anyway my $0.02

Those people simply have the wrong "guy". Michael is, and has been since forever, one of the primary go-to guys for hot 944 engines.

Michael did my Carrillo's, turn around time and price with bearings was less than my local guy.

Its also likely a matter of timing, we are in DE/Race/Summer season and this is not the time most people want to take their motor down. I'd be doing it for my S2 but its just not a good time for me to take my car down. This winter? you'll be seeing my rods and bearings come your way.

Same here. I run my last events in Nov. so I will pull it out at the end of the year. Very much looking forward to the upgrade. I just didn't have enough hours on the engine to pull it quite yet.

PM sent.

Excellent! Questions:

How does this modification effect bearing availability if a racing engine was to be refreshed each season? Would the rods have to be returned to be fitted for replacement bearings each time?

Would you guys be willing to install ARP bolts during the modification?

The rods don't have to be returned to replace the bearings, friend of mine's car was in the shop for servicing and i saw a box of new clevite bearings ready for installation.
On the other hand,Michael will be getting my rods as soon as i pull my engine out ... which will be shortly !

Cheers
Phil

I'd be all in, but many times we just drop the pan and replace the bearings.

I have a soon to be spec944 in the same boat.

Next time I do a whole engine, I'm all over it.

Mike
