Default DIY Turbo Cup Mirrors- Possible?

I know this isn't a unique thought but I am in the process of repainting my 86 Turbo track car and wanted to the change the mirrors to Turbo Cup style.

Finding an original pair will be difficult (impossible) if not expensive. The 79 to 93 VW cabriolet have similar mirrors but the base is different and won't mount to a 944 door.

Has anyone ever tried to mate the base to a stock 944 mirror to a VW mirror to get a "Cup" mirror that mounts to the door? I am tempted to just pick up a mirror and give it a try but I am sure not the first guy to think of this.

Anyone care to tell me I am crazy and save me the 40 bucks and the time?

I custom fitted some 935 (or was is 930) mirrors onto my car but have yet to paint it. I'll make sure to do it this weekend as I really want to get it on there.

How do the cup style mirrors look?

Do you have photos of the mirrors? I think the only 924 to have cup mirrors was the 924SE.

Are they available new? I was under the impression the Cup mirrors were still available new. Not that the price would be good, but......

Are they the half-moon style mirrors? Those are RSR mirrors I think. 930 mirrors are just flag mirrors with the 911-specific bases. 935's usually used the half-moon mirrors, but some of them didn't.

Correct, AFAIK. Early 924's have simple ball/socket manually adjustable mirrors. Not adjustable via cable as I think the cup mirrors are?

944 (S, Turbo, etc.) Cup or 924S-SE mirrors. Similar to, or the same as, Rabbit/Golf mirrors.

You can also get 968 CS/TRS Aero manual mirrors. Which are rare. They probably came on the 964 RS as well, but with a different base.

Take care,

New is a possibility but going to the dealer and paying what is likely the equivalent of a set of tires for mirrors I don't really need seems a bit over the top.

My original idea was to pick up some used VW mirrors and mate the stock mirror base. So far no one has piped in to tell me it is impossible.

I see...you have thrown down a challenge.

It is always fun to spectate especially when the event is proceed by the immortal words "Hey hold my beer and watch this". Usually the results are fun for the guys watching but not so much for the guy doing the deed.

So I have come to Rennlist to see if anyone else has already done the deed to save me the embarrassment.

The ones listed on Pelican are not Cup mirrors. They are manual stock flag mirrors, interesting but not what I am looking for.

The ones on Pelican are indeed cup mirrors. How do I know? Well because I am the one selling them. They came off of a 924 S SE, I am grabbing some pictures of them this afternoon because I have a few folks that are interested in them.

Only difference between the 924 mirrors and the real M637/754 Cup mirrors are the remote cable adjustment on the 924 mirrors. The Cup mirrors dont have the cable, and you need to stick your hand out the window to adjust them.... otherwise identical.
