I have done this...it is quite a bit of work, even when it is out. You will need an extended nose on a pop riveter to get inside the bearing groove to hold the bearing in. I would recommend, after having jumped through this flaming hoop to just buy Constatine's super bearings and be done with it. When you go to to re-insert the driveshaft, you will probably have to drive it into the bearings. Even with a block of 2X4 or 2X6 as a pad, you run the risk of mushrooming the tip of the driveshaft where it goes into the pilot bearing. So check this out before trying to re-install the TT and bolting it up to the BH. Avoid an almost unforseen hang-up at the last minute. BTDT. Just sayin..

No disagreement with @Tiger03447 or @Jay Wellwood but the Black Sea option doesn't exist anymore for split TT owners. The only option for them (me) is this, or move to a whole new TT that can use the Black Sea bearings.

Dear Zirconocene and Others: Although I didn't say it, but my TT is from an '83. I don't know if you can retrofit an early TT to the later cars, but I'm sure that several others can chime in on this..I'm sure that Constatine knows for sure. I know that the split TT is supposed to be an upgrade, but I don't know the differences...Thanks for the kind words, Mr. Z..Stay safe and healthy.

@Tiger03447 : That's the good news about these cars, the older TTs can fit in any of the cars up to the S2. As I understand it the 968 went to a design that helps with clutch changes so while those are not backwards compatible (as far as I know, but even if they were, I imagine they're rare as hen's teeth), I can see how even those cars might be able to use the older style TT. This is my long term goal but we'll see how this rebuild set works first.
Reading the Black Sea website it seems like the split design ended up causing some issues with bearing migration, even with the stock parts, and not even Constantine was able to mitigate it with his skills and design work.

If you contact Constatine, he will give you the spacing of the 4 bearings within the TT. Just make sure that #1or #2 (can't remember which) is BEHIND the screws that hold the shifter receptacle in place...I used a ton of personal type lube (water based) to reseat the bearing assemblies in the tube. By using such a lube, you don't degrade the outer cover of the bearing assemblies, since it is rubber...and 30+ years old. I slathered it on a bunch of paper towels and shoved it through the tube, as well as putting it through with my hand and arm. The steel bearing retainers are a pain, unless you use bucked rivets to hold them in place. I used steel pop rivets on mine, but I had to have a buddy turn down the nose of my pop riveter to get it inside the groove to set the rivet. I presume you could use sheet metal screws as well with red loctite. I also had the outside of my TT powdercoated since it was very rusty when I pulled it out. I used a piece of about 10-12 foot long piece of 1/2 inch all thread to take everything all apart and put it back together again. Use a fine pitch on the threads since some of it will be tough to turn if you use a coarse thread. Good luck..the whole thing is quite a pain to do... set aside several days to get it done. An impact wrench will help some, but it's mostly the armstrong method and persistance to do it.
