Default Any recommended shops in the San Francisco area?

My A/C compressor's clutch just died. It no longer engages when turning the A/C switch on. It had been dragging just a little when the A/C was off, so this isn't entirely unexpected.

I'm new to San Francisco, however, and could use some recommendations for a good independent Porsche shop in the area. Anyone know of one?

Thanks in advance.

I used to live in east bay and now santa cruz so I can't help you on an SF shop. Yelp has been good to me for finding shops with good reviews.

Vangaurd motors? My 951 used to go there, before I owned it. My very vague impression of them is good.

A/C Compressor is an easy swap. Depending on your budget a fellow RLister in the area could take care of it for you.

I don't think you need to go to a Porsche specific shop for this. Any good A/C shop should be able to help you. It's so easy to get to the compressor and service the system. You could get ahold of the Golden Gate region of the PCA and check with their membership. Good people there. Go to www.PCA.ORG
for contact info if you aren't a member.

Thanks guys. After learning that the A/C compressor clutch won't engage if the level of R12 is too low, I started there. Called up a mobile A/C specialist who came out, put a little bit of R12 into the system, and sure enough the compressor clutch engaged just fine. There were no significant leaks detected, either.

So we went ahead and evacuated the system, and re-filled it with compressor oil and R12. Sure enough, it blows ice cold again.

No need to replace the A/C compressor or its clutch this time, thankfully.
