Default Exhaust question

Well my car tried to kill me this morning.

On my way to work I started getting light headed and developed a mild headache. Having seen enough car safety PSAs in my youth to catch what was going on. I rolled down the windows and pulled to the side of the road so I am fine but I am pretty much 88% certain that C01 is leaking into the cabin of my car and that I have an exhaust leak.

So for those of you who have rebuilt or replaced the exhaust on your 944s, how much did you pay and how much can I expect to pay for this?

Did you smell exhaust fumes at all? It seems odd that you would get that much CO in the cabin without smelling something was wrong. If there is an exhaust leak one would also expect a lot of noise.

The issue is often the seal for the rear hatch being bad. Exhaust from the tail pipe can curl up and into the rear of the car.

I did smell kind of an ozone smell but it being the midst of cold season here my nose is a little plugged up to begin with.

Glad to hear you realized something was off before it was too late. Like others have said, if it was exhaust leak you probably would have noticed exhaust sounding louder or different.

We're you going through traffic and stop lights or cruising on the highway? I would be surprised if you would get much exhaust into the car at highway speeds, but I know my exhaust seems to want to come right in the hatch when I'm driving under 30mph.

Roughly 45 minutes on the freeway with about the last 20 minutes of that stuck in traffic. I did have the heater running a bit until I started feeling weird and shut it off.

It is possible you were actually sucking fumes from another vehicle if you were stuck in traffic and running the heater seemed to make it worse. You may just want to take a 'wait and see' approach to find if it happens again.

Entirely possible the more I think about it. It's 4ish hours later and I'm still pretty foggy. Thinking I'm probably just getting sick and was wanting to blame it on the car since I started feeling it while sitting in traffic.

Still kind of curious how much a full exhaust system would be though. I wouldn't mind having a shiner one.

Crazy, glad you noticed before something bad happened. CO can be nasty business, probably worth getting checked out by a Dr.

Well turns out is was gas being blown into the intake thanks to a bad pressure regulator. Replaced the regulator when I got home and I made it to work without getting high. Still caught an occasional whif of gas but I think that's just whatever is left sitting in the intake.
