Well, took the two drive gearboxes apart, both gears were stripped! Put it all back together with new gears careful not to retract them in too far, etc. Set the roof in. went to lock it, AND PROMPTLY STRIPPED BOTH NEW GEARS!!!
Looks like the reason the original ones stripped is because that stupid slip clutch is out of adjustment!
Oh well, just ordered FIVE new gears from Paragon......

I'd have to see the 88 mechanisim. But mostly add manual latches and at the worst add a bar (plastic is fine) about 2 inches long and half an inch wide 1/4 inch or so thick. I did it on my car in 45 minutes incluiding pulling out the old mechanisim.
There is plenty of play in the manual mechanisim. Pick that up and you'll see how easy the rest it.
It's so simple it's scary.

Actually. Thinking about it. You probably have the same curved piece for the actuator arm. The base for that is what I'm using for the anchor for the latch. That being the case. It's probably the same install. So you just have to find manual latches put them in and take out some of the electrical stuff.
