Default Throttle cam...help me!!!

Ok so i got my throttle cam in the mail today finnaly from 944Racing.com The slow shipping wasnt there fault, but UPS decided to keep changing around its 'schedualed delivery' date. anyway i tried putting it in before..took off the old cam and placed the new one in its place. Just one problem. The cam does not go down low enough so that i can even thread the bolt back on. The hole drilled into the replacement cam is not nearly as large as the stock cam (see picture below). Is supposed to be like this? Did i completley miss something?

Also would someone be so kind as to show me what their cam looks like installed correctly..as im trying to put the stock back on, but i dont think im doing it right.

I had the same problem too. Take a round file and work on the hole until it goes all the way down.

yeah the same thing happened with myne, as opposed to the more reasonable 'file the hole' technique, i just kept on trying and eventually it worked itself in. congrats on the purchase by the way. it makes the car 'feel' a lot more powerful for under thirty bucks... if only we stopped there...

Argg...yea i just bought a round file and some WD-40 from Home Depot (gotta fix my door which sounds like its farting everytime i close it). Anyway before i open this $6.00 file (im strapped for cash...) when you say "worked itself on" you mean you pretty much forced it in?

Upon further inspection, i was wondering...is it possible to take off the metal piece thats making the cam not fit?

Oh and soundboy4, i must compliment your 944. When i first got my 924 i was looking around cardomain at 944/924s looking at what people have done to them, i remember your being one of the nicest.

thanks a lot man i appreciate it on the complements, and to think the car isn't half of what some of the other beasts some of these rennlisters have

about the throttle responce cam...i didn't necessarily force it in, I think i got it lined up perfectly and may have hammered it in very softly to get it started and then it slipped right on. the ordeal didn't take more than 20 mins to work through though, but i got myne from performanceproducts.com so maybe there's a very slight difference in dimensions. in any case, slipping it on isnt half the fun, once you get it on you have to make sure that you get the cable length set just right. I remember turning the car on right after installing it and RPMS shot up like crazy, and then it idled too high, and then it was juuust right after the last adjustment... good luck to ya

Jeez, the one I got from Zim's fit perfectly. I think it took a total of ten minutes to remove the old one, install the new one and adjust the cable and pedal stop.

Is that metal piece just a bushing that slides off? If so then pull it off and see how the cam fits then. If it fits pretty loose then keep the bushing and use the file technique. If it fits well, then ditch the bushing.

I tried pulling that bushing off earlier by hand but no luck, i was going to use a visegrip but it started to rain more heavily, and with the rain came thunder and lightning. With my luck i would get struck by lightning as soon as i walked out with those visegrips in my hand. I am almost 100& sure it will not fit without some type of modification. I assume the one sold by PeformanceProducts was made differntly, or maybe the throttle linkage is differnt between our two cars.

Tremelune, i considered doing that before i bought the cam, but realized it would not work as i have an automatic. Thanks for the tip though.

I used to make them for the auto's. There are a few things to take into account when making the auto mod... that size is one of them.

Yea, i was going to drill the hole out larger at first, but i dont have a vice or anything to hold the cam steady. If i were to just hold it id likley drill a crooked hole through the cam, then my hand.

considering we have identical cars, and we both bought it from 944racing, I find it weird that mine slid right on. The whole thing took me like five minutes, didnt even have problems with adjusting the cables. Hope things work out for you, driving become totally different with this cam in.
