Thumbs down Ripped off at oil change place?

Well took the ol 944 in to get the oil and have them just, I mean just drain and fill the trans oil. The only reason I dont do it, is that I dont have the tools. All together the total was 155 dollars, they charged me $100 just to drain and fill the trans, I stood there and told them where everything was, and it was simple. Wtf! I could understand a flush and fill, but just this, I am really bummed out because its a local oil place, and I cant complain to anyone corp I dont think. Is this a normal price, thats it I'm getting my own stuff

Yeah... that's too much. However, minute-oil change places often end up charging you way too much for the (relatively) non-standard oil filter that the 944 engine has. I once had a place try to charge me about $50 for the filter alone

Yep, you got ripped. But look at the good side. Now that you're mad about it, you'll be motivated to get some tools and learn how to do it yourself. I had to have some of the same lessons before I came to the same spot.

call the corp. office and complain.and really let them know that you are really unhappy.tell them you bring your other cars there also and you will take all your business elsware and see if they don't do something for you. if you would like i can let my wife call them and bitch at them (she is really good at getting results from places that try to ripp me off!) just let us know.

Yea its a quaker state quick lube, and I think its independant one. I know when other people go in there, there are all different charges, nothing is the same for just an oil change for some reason. I need to find the corp number because all they have is the local one. I just fixed my overheating problem and I get this bite in the **** bill, I'm still upset, yea have your wife call, I need to find the number that would be great lol.

Did they give you an estimate before doing it?

If so, I don't think you have a leg to stand on.

The gear oil alone (if they have the correct GL-4, NOT GL-5) is $15 for the 3 quarts.

Also, consider that they are taking some risk in attempting the gear oil change - the drain and fill plugs could be damaged or stripped on removal.

I paid too much for some things when I first got the car, but over time, as my confidence increased, I took on more of the maintenance tasks myself.

nope I just got out of my car and asked if I could get a trans oil change, they said no problem, no estimate, I even went under the car to tell them where fill and drain plugs were. Told him to take the top one out first, then I stood there and watched him just drain it into a pan, and fill it, that was it. After all they were gonna charge me around 27 bucks for a napa oil filter, but he said he would only charge me 10 because he tried to call other places and they were out. Total $155 and some change, 100 was for the trans fluid and change. Feel like I was given the lube job without lube. Yea I know that was sick, but you know how I feel.

Quaker State-- BIG mistake. High sulphur content leads to crankcase jello. I've scraped enough out to know, I'll never use anything but Valvoline and Castrol. And to say it a bit gently, do it yourself and save a bundle. One time pays for tools, the rest is beer money.

"What are they like $20 at the Porsche dealer!?!"

No idea what they are at the Porsche dealer, since I never had an oil change done at the dealer.

I work at Jiffy Lube, supposedly they bought out Q-Lube and Quakerstate. We charge 34.99 for a tranny drain and fill. If you paid cash, I would say that they took you. I would get in touch with their coperate office. Did you get a receipt? I've known quite a few ppl at places(including mine) to take cash and not run it through the buisiness. I do not paritcipate in that BS. I have a BS job like this for now because my license is suspended and have to work very local. I lost a good job at a P-car dealer when I lost my license. Go to Autozone and get a cheap rachet and the large allen wrench set for about 21 bucks and do it yourself from now on. It's a 30mm allen bit IIRC?
