Default Wholly Unobtainium!! aka wiper motor

After a ton, or at least an hour, of research. It would appear that the windshield wiper motors are:

1.) Different on 86 and up from the rationally priced 83-85's
2.) Made of 24 karat gold with platinum windings.

Why are they so much more? Has anyone found a reasonable solution?

How's $25 plus shipping sound, for a good working condition late-car wiper motor.

Shoot me a PM if you're game.

I spent a few hours and disassembled the motor, unstuck the brushes, lubed it up and now works as new. The factory installed the incorrect rubber washer for the window and small amounts of water entered, probably when washing over the years, and the brushes were stuck. Easy fix.

You can also often still find auto electric shops which specialize in rebuilding alternators, starters and small motors like these. There's one in Merrimack NH, about 10 minutes from me I have used numerous times and I know he could handle rebuilding a wiper or blower motor and would do it for a small fraction of what a new one would cost. Here's his data for future reference (no affiliation other than being a satisfied past customer):

Auto Electric Warehouse Inc
8 Griffin St Merrimack, NH 03054
(603) 424-3820

The owner's name is Dana and I know he'd be happy to deal by mail with anyone out of the area.

As usuall, Rennlist proves to be an invaluable resource. I joined this forum 12 years ago because of the type of community it is. Glad to still be here.

Hey Kevin, I'm glad it worked out!

And because of this thread I've had literally about 7 people asking if I still had it available or had another one for sale. (which I currently don't, in case anyone is reading this right now). lol
