Default Delete the "European Parking Light Function?"

The European parking light function bugs me, where the turn signal says on solid when the turn signal stalk is left up or down with the ignition off.

I think I read that snipping the green wire in the ignition will kill this "feecher."

I don't want to snip the wrong wire, when I look up under the dash there does not seem to be any green wires coming out of the ignition switch itself, but there is a white plastic plug with one red wire and one green wire that looks as though it is plugged into the steering-column side of the ignition switch.

Is that the correct green wire to snip?

look at the wiring diagrams and see where the wires run, maybe you could swap the flasher relay for one with an ignition-on pin?

btw i was in agoura yesterday, i moved to the valley a few months ago. would love to check out your swap sometime.

I personally like the feature, think its pretty neat. Found out about it by accident on an old NA.

Why do you want to get rid of it?

I didn't realize this was an actual feature and not just a weird consequence of the blinker design. It killed my battery while I was at work last week, I couldn't figure out how to turn the damn thing off.

Because it's a "feature" I will never, ever use, and I have too often accidentally left the turn signal on when I park the car thus draining the battery. I have a really small, light battery in my car, and it gets drained easily. So, no upside to having it, and plenty of downside.

Put your warning chime back in the fuse box and it won't happen again. The car yells at you if you leave the signal on and open the door.

Arominus, I did indeed pull the chime, it yelled at me every time I opened the door, regardless of whether the turn signal was on or not. Sounds like you're saying it's not supposed to do that.

I had some wiring issues I was working on and discovered this ' feature', I just assumed this was another wiring screw up.

1987 Red 944 N/A *** NOTE- I probably posted from my iPad, please excuse any typos, bad punctuation or odd grammar, if it is unreadable, it probably was posted from my iPhone.

Hi all, so does anyone know if this is the correct green wire to cut? "white plastic plug with one red wire and one green wire that looks as though it is plugged into the steering-column side of the ignition switch."

I never had issues with it, I was told about it when I bought the car. I had known from previous experience with bmw's but always thought it was bmw specific. I never used the feature either.

So I've been informed it's the grey wire. "GR" on the wiring diagram means grey, not green.

The narrator is calling the model "nine hundred forty four". I thought the rule with Porsche was to say each digit individually "nine four four" except for the 911 "nine eleven". Is that just for English speakers or what?

I'm not aware of a "Porsche rule," however, I have known Germans to flip-flop between saying numbers like "752" as "seven five two" instead of "seven hundred two-and-fifty." For them it can save some syllables. With 911, I suspect it's because "neun eins eins" doesn't quite roll off the tongue like "neun elf."

So here we have "Neunhundard vierundvierzig" or "Neun Vier Vier." The "proper way" to say "944" is the former and the narrator is probably doing such... as it's his job to say stuff properly.
