Buy a DD, buy a cheap LS1. Rebuild it. Swap when you're ready to put it in the car. Sell the DD.

Unless I get a real big raise, an LS1 is not in the cards. Any swapped-in engine would be more budget-friendly than that, but still bonkers.

on the supercharger. Would love to see one done properly on a tight budget.

the last thing i need to actually buy are a few silicone couplers. presently, for all the other parts (supercharger, bracket, intake manifold, NA-tune, injectors, WBO2, etc) i'm at just over $1500. for someone who didn't want to keep AC and/or had more time for fab work it could be done a bit cheaper.

Lancia Rally - Stratos vs 037 - YouTube
that stratos motor (and the alfa v6) are easily in the top 5 of best engine sounds.

sorry for OT.

Coupler is cheap, $40 IIRC.

You're keeping AC? thank the lord. Can't wait to see how you rig it up.

comme ça

(the alternator will hang from the PS bracket and use that pulley, see link in signature)
(that belt is way too long, and that's not actually the SC pulley on the SC)
(need to make the SC top hat thing, the one i have already outputs on the wrong side)

the SC mount bracket you will see when i go home and take a picture of it later this month. it is 1/2" steel plate with a leg mounted on it (which you can see under the SC pulley) for the SC front bolt, another leg for the belt-wrap idler( below red pipe), and hangers for the AC compressor. it weighs around 10lbs and im pretty confident you could lift the car off the ground with this thing.

the rear of the SC is secured to the motor mount arm on both sides, which is taken off a 944S2. one leg attaches to the S2 manifold bracket mount, and the other leg bolts to the arm at the block.

and the big picture, is how it sorta looks in the car. the "wrong side" outlet pipe is visible here next to the throttle body, it is available if someone wants to try to make it work with their own M90.

also the AFM is obviously out of the picture now, so disregard that.

Honestly, if you have the time and keep an eye out for parts you could probably build the whole thing in a week or two, provided you also had a solid plan.

Oh, and available money is helpful.

this is basically what my running setup will be, plus clamps of course

charge piping is all 2.5". inlet piping is about 2.75" but it fluctuates a bit.

i have the 951-type upper rad hose setup ready to put onto my engine when the final assembly comes, so the post-IC charge pipe will sit a little lower.

since this picture was taken i have decided to use a different throttle body, i will add info on that when i get to it.

i am also going to build a super-sturdy new style of serpentine belt tensioner, also to come later.

also, down the road i will likely be changing the MAF to a different housing.

my fabrication has to wait until i get to my other house where the fun tools (plasma cutter/welder/grinder/drill press etc) are.
