Default 16" clubsport wheels - switch to 265 tires or wait?

I need tires for my 16" clubsport wheels, but from what I can tell there is only one street tire available (bridgestone potenza re11) and it's backordered until January.

The tire shop I called said one option might be to go with Kumho Ecsta XS in a 265/45/16 size on the rear, and 225/50/16 on the front.

Since the rear is a bit wider I assume the sidewall will also be a bit taller than the stock size.

Would this size be a fairly trivial change or should I hold out until January for the correct size? I won't be driving it on the old tires so safety isn't an issue.

If you switch to a 265, your speedometer will be off by a bit. Google some tire size calculators to see the difference. It is a problem that we have with the older smaller wheel sizes - it would be nice for more companies to make performance tires in OEM sizes.

Dunlop also offers a direzza Z1 or Z2 in 225/50/16 that would be the correct diameter. I run them on my 944S, but i'm not staggered (7" wheels all around). If your on 7/8" staggers 205/225 will work decently.

Thank you for the info. I would prefer not to have the speedometer off if at all possible. I've seen a few autocross/track tires but I'm assuming they would not be a good idea for road use?

Pretty sure I am on a staggered setup, as far as I know the wheels are the stock 89 turbo clubsports. Do you think 225's on the rear will look too 'stretched' with these wheels and/or give me enough grip? The car is mildly tuned (chip).

Is the set 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 same as stock?

DOT-R tires have a really low wear rating. I doubt you want to buy tires as often as those would force you to.

I'm wondering if I should be looking at new wheels which accept more common size tires. Seems like by the time I need tires after this set I may have no options left in the correct size.

17s are viable but they are heavier. You could always change to a set of d90s and run the 205/225 combo.

Taymar, I have a pair of 245/45/16s I purchased from Tire Rack a couple of months ago that I'd let you have for my cost, plus shipping... if that would help you out. I went another direction and don't need em.

Taymar,

yes, if they are stock setup for Turbo S, they are 16x7 front and 16x9 rear. OEM tire sizing was 205/55 front and 245/45 rear. You can run 225/50 in the front with no speedo change, but there isn't a good option for rears in a 16" wheel. As much as I like the design of the ClubSport wheels, technology is such that it is pushing us toward looking at overall cost of going to 17's. Used rims and more tire availability could be about a push.

I have a brand new set of RE-11s in my garage waiting to be mounted. I just ordered and received them from tire rack less than two weeks ago. 225/50-16s and 245/45-16s. Did you check tire rack recently?

No coopers are 245/50 and BFG are 255/50. I know. Really coopers have little or no affect on speedo and look great. Very highly rated tire and excellent price. BFG does affect speedo but these are also hard to beat for performance wear and price. Check out discounttiredirect.com no shipping great service
