Default I've joined your collective joy and misery.

Hello all, I've purchased (another) 1986 951. I owned one 23 years ago when they were newer, and out of the 62 cars I have now owned, my favorite was always a 951.

This one is red over black, has 80k on it, and has been sitting in a heated garage for the last 13 years, being driven only occasionally. That turns out to be where the problem is. The cam belt was changed less than 1000 miles ago. That turns out to be in 2002. The power steering leaks like a sieve. Who knows what else I'm going to get into with so little drive time on it. Oh well, at least its pretty.

So, I have have it up on stands in the garage with the front of the motor and cam tower completely off of it, and thanks to a lot of study on the internet (a lot of it right here on past Rennlist postings, thanks!), everything is going relatively smoothly.

One thing has come up, though, so I'd thought I'd join and post, finally. My car has a Billy Boat turbo back exhaust and Autothority Stage 2. Previous owner paid over 4 grand for it all!!! So I'm looking it over and I notice there is no O2 sensor. Then I look where it is supposed to go and it appears there is no bung for it, even on the factory crossover pipe. There is an electrical connector at the back of the engine bay for one clear as day, but, no hole in the exhaust, anywhere.

So, Rennlisters, my new favorite friends, WTF? Where is the O2 sensor supposed to be? Is it even supposed to have one?

First of all congrats and please post pics. The o2 goes in the cross over right before the turbo if memory serves me correctly. It has been about 7 years since I have looked at mine. It is very easy to get to, but the routing of the wire is tough.

Right before the turbo? I will look more closely in that area. Thank you so much.

Pretty much the only pic I have, as I trailered it home because of the old cam belt. Haven't driven it since.

I found it. I was looking where the factory diagrams led me, which is not up by the turbo. Black', I just needed a little direction. Thank you!

Turbo, thanks! X5 is a diesel. Pulled it home 3 hours like it wasn't even there. Got 19 mpg!

I'm amazed you've had 62 cars...

I've had 8 non-porsches and 5 porsches (plus 3 parts cars). But that's over 25 years.

No very hard Van if they were Datsuns! They rust like crazy. I redid the floors in my Z THREE freaking times in the 24 years I owned it, and I didn't winter drive it! (I have owned 17 Datsun Z cars over the years.)

To the OP. Nice car, goodluck and have fun.

jeeze I thought it was something serious.

take these four big ones:

1. no-starts that can't be resolved without getting a serious confrontation with your sanity, bank account, etc

2. burnt out clutch.

3. broken timing belt.

4. head gasket failure.

when you get with one of these, you'll be officially 'here.'

So today I got the timing belts off. Oh man, I am glad I trailered it home. The balance shaft tensioner bearings were rattling and the cam idler pulley was nearly locked up!

I was about 100 miles from number 3!
