Default Control arm lock nuts

From what I've read it says that you have to replace the lock nuts on the control arm when you remove them. What is the concern here? That they won't holds as well once they have stretched? Would using red lock tight not achieve the same thing. Every time I've used red lock tight it's been hell getting off the bolt, so why wouldn't that work with these bolts.

I've always used new simply because lock nuts are only supposed to be used once...period!

You could try and let us all know if it works. If it doesn't work I guess we won't hear back from you. GL

I replace based on condition. I've re-used, and I've replaced. Either way, I've never had an incident. It's your judgement call. If you have any doubts, replace it, as it's cheap insurance.

I agree with replacing. I ordered mine for piece of mind. I considered just reusing so I could get the car back up and running, but thought better of it in the end.

The "must replace" concern is mostly for the camber bolts and nuts. The reason is that they lose clamping force when recycled, even when torques properly. But replacing any lock nut on the suspension after a single use is a conservative, safe move, as is replacing the bolt.

Carroll Smith wrote some good words about how, in theory, lock nuts and thread locker are not necessary. In theory. He lived very much in the practical world, though.
