Glossifier, which is what I used, is opaque. The clear is matte, so both will dull your headlights.
The stuff is reversible and durable the same time, so that's the advantage. Plus it was about $25 to do the roof job, above. i'm betting it's way easier to use than paint, too. I am fairly new to spray painting and had a pretty easy time with the plasti-dip. Furthermore, over-spray is not a problem because you can rub it off. If I know I could do a good job, color-matched automotive paint with clear coat would be great.
It doesn't look bad, does it? I am planning on keeping it like this for a while. At least it's an improvement over what I had. I appreciate the input so far.

here are before and after photos of a fender on my car - I did this work in my driveway, nothing special except spray guns and a decent compressor. you can do this too.

Plasti Dip is some neat stuff.
I did my entire 951 with 4 colors as a temporary paint job. The original color was burgundy, and in very bad condition.
I plan to remove it or do a new design over it, by the new year.

I'm confused about that picture, did you spray plastidip over the repair or real paint?

I believe he's saying it's real paint.
I bought a quart of Steingrau basecoat from the auto paint dealer, and had him put it in 16-oz spray cans. (These are a high quality spray can) I used it on my lower valance with a coat of rattle-can clearcoat (from same dealer) over the basecoat. Total cost was almost $200, but I have 2 cans of basecoat left. It doesn't spoil.

Jesus guys. pleasssssssseeee go and sand some cars at a body shop.
the senior guru, Mr. Noble is absolutely right....
and the body prep for my paint ?
same... just hacking in the back yard...
after the front end re-design, the rear valence took about 12 hours to get down to the primer and the bottom of the surface cracks...
and where you do that ?? on the picnic table, of course...
and a few hours of cleaning and final prep at the shop prior to the big spray.

thanks a million for that comment.
it broke the bank, but it really is a better designed LS7, imo.
and with it now done, the variocam will likely be driving it's last on 22 or 23 November
my work schedule, Eric's shop and the fiftieth anniversary of the coup d'état all sort of fell into place...
i'll be in Dealey with my fellow researchers.
and then drop off the car.
I'm looking forward to the outcome.
