Default AMCO Shift ****

So back at the beginning of the month I did some shopping at the Burls Creek Automotive Flea-Market and picked up this walnut shift **** for $10. Thought it might look cool in the 944 (They also had leather ones but not in my shift pattern).

So I used the shifter from the parts car and did some cutting and welding so it would accept normal threaded *****.

I never thought anything of it but a quick google search showed that AMCO actually made the OEM ***** for some Porsches in the 60s and 70s. Apparently they're also quite hard to find and can be expensive.

Anyways, thought I'd share what it looked like! And as an added bonus, what I found from the PO when I took the shift boot off...

Oh how I hate that boot!

It's what was on the car when I bought it. I just haven't gotten around to changing it. I know, I know.

Really? I'm after a simple black, leather boot.

My car is a mix of normal 944 stuff and American Stock car stuff.

Actually I'm currently sporting a pair of 45 year old BF Goodrich Radial T/As on the rear! (they were $25!)

It was. I had to grind it off. I managed to save the physical rod (Connected to the tranny). I have no clue what the PO was thinking.

But I now have an OEM lever and a custom lever that accepts threaded *****. Granted my welding isn't the greatest so we'll see how long this lever holds up.

That being said this is my second 944, but my first as a mature person. So it's a learning project for me.

yea with the shift rod locked into the shift lever, you would not have been able to perform a clutch job, since the rod needs to be pushed forward to allow clearance to drop the tranny.

Funny thing is this winter I planned on swapping trannys. My parts car has the "Coveted" locking rear diff.

I need to have a chat with the PO about what's been done with the car. I found out after I bought it that I not only know the PO, but I grew up around him. I even found pictures of myself in this car when I was about seven years old.

I checked out Only944 but their boot is an OEM replacement boot that covers the **** as well. I just need a normal boot.

I like it, unique and looks really good with the early dash, sort of gives it a 70's disco feel.

If you take the stock leather boot to a leather shop they can easily trim and stitch it to fit that ****.
