Cool Power door locks with a mind of their own...

Hey,

89 944 NA power door locks keep unlocking themselves. Have no clue why - seems to happen due to vibration while driving...

Any clues?

Thanks,

Sounds like a short in the console switch. Can you remove and clean the contacts, and double check that the wire are not loose.

Isn't there a microswitch assembly on each keylock (one per door)? This switch or its wiring might also be the culprit.

Not sure how the harness is set up for this but it would be useful to isolate the two doors and the center switch from one another to see if any of these are causing the problem.

In my 88 952 if the central locking system thinks the driver's door is open it will unlock both doors. This is to irritate you enough when driving or trying to lock the car with an unlatched driver's door to figure out what is going on. It runs off the position of the latching mechanism at the rear of the door. I've never looked for this switch when I have had the door apart and I don't know why there wouldn't be the same provision on the passenger door as trying to lock the car with that open would be much more likely. But that is the way mine works.

Depending on how that switch works, i.e. contacts open or closed, the switch could be OK, but a wire could be broken which intermediately fails or connects and opens the locks. I have a feeling it will take some work to track this down.
