DME relay question - no fuel

It's worth it when you just plug it into your relay board and the car runs. There's technically no reason you can't replace it with a pair of generic $3 relays and make up the wiring harness to make it work. It'll just be a PIA to mount it reliably and package everything.

also, the DME is available widely for closer to $18, and if you pick up a few bad ones and fix them, they are free forever.

My problem is that I have 12v coming out of the DME into pin 85b, where the DME relay is expecting to see ground. Any idea what condition the DME thinks is happening for it to do this? My guess is it is receiving a signal saying the engine is revolving at <300rpm, or a diode has gone in the DME, allowing power to flow where it shouldn't. Bad speed sensor maybe?
