Post 6x9's for the rear speaks?

I'm going ahead and replacing this kenwood CD-Player with a different one, and the rear speakers. I've read somewhere of someone putting 6x9's in the rear of 944 w/o much effort, can I put them in the rear on the 951? What all would I have to do?

I recently did an extensive search of the archives and I couldn't find an answer to this. I know you can put them back by the rear hatch. What I (and presumeably Craig) want to do is put them where the stock rear speakers are.

Hmm, ok Tabor, when I searched a couple of weeks ago, this is one of the posts I found that helped me.

Now you've got me feeling kind of guilty. The shop that helped me redo my system was referred to me by some of the other local 944 PCA guys and they were great and knew a lot about what they could and couldn't do. They recommended against 6X9s because you would have to MAKE them fit and I wanted a stock look. I ended going with MB Quart DKD 146s all around hooked into a Sony 4-channel amp. I also have one the those self powered Bazookas for some low end punch and really like it.

YES i do search archives, swear to god. I searched about the A-Pillar thing and found TONS of matches but couldn't read them ALL, and they didn't have what I was looking for.
I did search for this one, but I was in hope to find someone that had done it, maybe a new guy? Refreshing the topic gets more replies sometimes.
I search for some stuff, others alot of times haven't even been posted. Muahahahaha. Don't feel bad, everyone yells at cwaig ;-D

Craig,

I've been messing w/the stereo in my Turbo s for awhile now- all I wanted was 4 decent speakers that have a little low end, and a decent head unit. Well, this has now turned into adding an amp b/c the head unit (22w RMS) wasn't strong enough... So, I am now installing a 4-chan amp on the floorboard above the ECU. Then, I'm going to put 6 1/2's all around. The fronts will require some cutting- I am going to trim the outer edges of some old Infinity Kappa separate's (wouldn't recommend w/new speakers), and cut out a little door panel- I am talking about keeping them in the stock Turbo s location, not the stock 944 location- depth SHOULD be my only problem. Anyway, I have measured the rear area- you can get 6x8's back there, but 6x9's would be a stretch- either should require cutting- I don't see how it couldn't. I just bought some new Kappa's for the rear- I'll let you know how it turns out. I've about given up on the perfect 944 Turbo- there are just too many things wrong w/the design IMO that would cost way too much to correct- the stereo is one of the least of these little irritants. What can I do? I could sell it now and lose a fortune (and not have anything much to start with for another car) or keep it and lose a fortune (a small fortune if I quit messing w/it and a large one if I don't)...

I have Diamond Audio 6X9's over the rear cubbies mounted to a piece of plywood cut to the form of the rear carpet (under the carpet) in the corners and they sound great.....a hellava lot better than 4X6's.

I wanted to do the same thing. I measured it and 6x9s wont fit, theyre just a tad too big.
