LOL I had 2 928s with electromotive FI systems on them and a lot of other FI cars and I do my own work so know how to work on FI. I just like Webers. I did have a 928 adapter plate I prototyped but I was going to use that for FI TB's. Never got around to it.

Fair enough, I suppose I would definitely trust the car even more now that I've replaced a few parts that were on the way out. It's always going to come down to how well it's being maintained...

Decided I want a partially stripped out street car. Sort of like a 944 RS concept is one choice.
Would like to get 175-200HP or so.

If I want to keep the body close to stock then a 83 944, but may swap on a turbo nose.

I have always loved the look of a 924 Carerra GT or Carerra GTP so If I do a body kit, I was thinking of starting with one of the factory 924 cars with the 944 drivetrain and the main reason for a 924 is I have always liked this body work - 924 Carerra GT

Or......

A 924 GTP body kit if they even exist which is pretty extreme.
White car down the page.

Thinking an 83 944 or whatever 924 has a 2.5L engine that 95% of the work has been done to it, Partially strip it into a RS type stripped down steet car, and if I boost it, Valve job and head gasket if it hasnt been done lately and clutch if need be for the additional power, definitely aftermarket EFI no matter if NA or boosted and probably microsquirt although my only previous experience is with Haltach and Electromotive.

If I leave it NA would ITB it eventually although I am sure I would not hit 175 on a 2.5L engine without doing more engine work. If boosted I am thinking a eaton M90 SC running at about 8 psi.

I had a 944 turbo and the turbo routing is nuts and overly complex so not really interested in a turbo car although that would give me the power without touching anything. I basically want something a little different.

Would like around 175-200hp at the crank and have been reading on the guy that has a SC 944 here and that an Eaton M90 with brown top injectors works pretty well so maybe thats an option. I ran those with a haltech computer on my 1st 928 twin turbo. Dumped the haltech and I swapped out to Electromotive EFI and I ran 42# (I think, its been a while) injectors scavanged from a Ford V8 TB. Kinsler used to sell adapters that would allow them to be rail mounted. Not sure if they sell them any more.

Also could swap in a 2.7 or 3L and go NA which would be less headaches than a fabricating plumbing for an M90.

Also how much power can the factory 944 trans-axle handle ??

Thanks

A word about swapping a turbo nose onto an early car: the nose panel is welded on, you'll have to drill it off. Some people around here have done it, I don't think it's too big of a deal.

Thanks

LOL - I restored a 72 Pantera and spent well over 500 hours in sheet metal work and 5 years and must have drilled at least 300-400 spot welds. Seems like a million but....

I got pretty good at rosebud welds eventually.

I'm going to be the devil's advocate here and say...If I were you I would be looking at buying a LATE model 944, probably an S2, that already has the turbo nose and 3L engine, and work on simplifying and lightening THAT. It sounds like what you're planning has a lot of unnecessary and extra work; trust me, I understand the want to have something totally my own, but I also understand that it's easier to start with the foundation that has the most elements you want already in it.

I see this...If you want a partially stripped out 944, with a 3L engine, turbo nose etc...why not buy a 944S2, strip out the sound deadening from under the carpets, put some lighweight seats in it, buy a manual sunroof conversion kit, delete the sunroof motor, swap in a manual steering rack, replace the old most likely dry-rotted spare with a can of fix-a-flat. I think in the end you'll be happier with the later suspension (although it is more expensive to replace items, it's also newer and the aluminum stuff is lighter than the old steel stuff), late interior with some lightened bits. Personally, the driving position in a later 944 is much more comfortable to me than an early one, partially because I find the steering wheel and gauges to be more centered in front of me.

Just some thoughts

You might want to think about our 85.5, all ready sorted.

1985.5 Porsche 944 Track Car..
street legal 85.5 with full cage(bolt in), This is a "semi" NASA prepared car, still street legal, full cage, coil overs, big Welt Sway bars, just add race seat (comes with 7X15 Cookie Cutters, but the tires are old the Fuchs are off my 914)
Removable GT Racing Fiberglass front valance.

Drives well, new battery, new brake caliper, new radiator, tight susp..
$8,500...
Lots of pictures, including action shots at Daytona & Sebring here.
