Tramlining
Hombres: Just put Technology rims and Continental tires (less than 100 mi) on my 88 Turbo S. never had this problem before, but now the car tramlines like a drunken sailor. Fronts went from 225/50/16 to 225/40/18; rears went from 245/45/16 to 265/35/18. Pressures in the 35/36 range. Alignment was done when the new tires/wheels went on. I know there are many contributing factors: tread pattern, pressures, toe ...oh and BTW, I just put on billet lower control arms as well. Old steel one on driver's was broken. Kinda makes the car a bit of a handful and less fun to drive. Follows every groove in the road, regardless of speed. Any insight would be grand.

If you haven't changed the camber/caster, then it is probably the tread pattern. My 89 951 went from stock 225x50-16 Kuhmo V700 racers to 235x40-18 Kuhmo Exsta and the tramlining totally went away. The V700 felt heavy and tramline terribly. I could affect it some with camber but not much.

It may indeed be the tread pattern, offset, or width, & just one of those things to be lived with; don't forget rear alignment as well as front.
But try experimenting up & down with tire pressures, especially the front. My 968 tramlined real bad with new P-7000's until I raised the front air pressure by all of 2 psi... that was all it took to cure it. I'd been really disappointed with the 968 because I went from a 944 na that had absolutely perfect steering to something that literally shook me on every linear road imperfection.
Jim, pretty dang happy with it now...

I have to agree on tires. I think different ones handle differently, and the lower the profile the more apt they are to cause problems. I assume you are running Conti super contacts. I have a set of those in 18" rim size on my BMW, it tracks fine. I notice that my 951 runs pretty straight on Bridgestones but is awful on the Yokohama track/street tires (A032R). Much of that is certainly due to the track nature of the tire but I know some people that have used these as street tires with little or no tramlining.

FWIW, I'd be looking at alignment or pressures, and possibly offset.
When I run the 17" cup wheels and Pilot Sports I used to have on my dear departed 993, my Turbo S tramlines noticeably. These same wheels & tires tracked arrow-straight on the 993. Returning to the stock 16" wheels (that the car was aligned with) eliminates the problem.
