Question Wheel compatability with 951S brakes

I'm in the process of buying the complete brakes from a 944 Turbo S. I have 16" Design 90 wheels (7" and 9") and have been told that it is the spokes that interfere with the 951S brakes and not the diameter. If this is true, could I use a spacer? How thick? Anyone ever tried this??

I'm resigned to the fact that I may be forced to purchase a set of 17" wheels , but I'd love to salvage the use of my old wheels.

Also, I'll need an billit aluminum adapter for the brake conversion. I only know of Broadfoot that sells it. Any other places where I could do some comparison shopping.

TIA

The offset is whats key in a situation like this.
I know the 951S comes with club sport design 90's which are 8" front and 9" rear.
What I cant remember is what the offsets are exactly...just know that the 951S offsets are different from the non-S offsets and the 911 offsets are different from the 951S offsets...

Someone else will be of more help...

I am in the process of doing the same with my S2.

I have seen the brake adapter ("elephant ear") elsewhere for $200+; Broadfoot is cheapest I have found. They are supposed to position/mount the S4 calipers correctly.

Improper wheel offset will cause interference, not the 16 in. dia. for the design 90 type. If your car has the S2 or later turbo wheel offsets, you *should* be okay with the S4 caliper (see my "logic" below).

I believe the 944 Turbo S tracks about 1/3 in. narrower per side than 944S2. Stock OEM wheel offset for the Turbo S has similar compensatory increase. 944 Turbo S wheels are wider (MO30 vs non-MO30). This implies narrower tracking and larger wheel offset are utilized to compensate for wider wheel to keep same centerline. Therefore no wheel spacers should be required.

I am not 100% sure on this, but I am going to remove the caliper without disconnecting it (just hang it), attach the adapter/S4 caliper and check wheel clearance. At worst a slim wheel spacer will be required.

Thanks guys. I talked with Garrity and he thinks that I will need a 1/8" spacer. That seems mighty thin. I'll post what I find out.

Hey Forrest, email me your phone # if you ever want to trade S2 experiences. I've had mine for about 18 months (Koni's, LSD and chip). I'm done with the motor, but plan will be upgrading suspension/brakes. (Although I just did my first drivers ed and came to the realization that I am "the weakest link".)
