want a 2nd car..any input?
In about a year or so I plan on purchasing another car to be the primary or the 2nd car (not sure yet) and have come up with some ideas..any input appreciated but these are the cars I have always wanted and might not be able to have forever (women=money, house=money, kids=money, etc...)
Please add any others that I should take a look at, my only real criteria that they be most likely european (- nsx), cost around 30-40,000. have decent maintence costs (i know lotus, RR, eek!)
Fire at will!
Heres the list:
1997-1999 Range Rover 4.6 HSE
1995 Lotus Esprit S4S
1979 Porsche 911 Turbo
1990-1994 Porsche Carrera 2/4
1989 Porsche 944 Turbo S
1997 Volvo 850 R/T5R
1995-1999 BMW M3
1991-1995 Acura NSX
? Audi A4/S4
1992-1994 Porsche RS America

How about a Lotus Elise. You can get them in the US from Sun International. They sell them with a EPA approved Integra Type R powertrain for $55,000. You may be able to find a used one from them for a lot less. If you are planning on just track time or have access to some kind of temporary plates, you may want to go for a motorsports version Elise.
I remember seeing a video of a guy in an Elise chasing a Ferrari F40 around a racetrack in France. I'm not sure what trim the Elise was in, but the F40 couldn't make much distance on the Elise.

dude go Porsche if you have no family..or even...get something old and exotic...pantera? Lotus? or even the NSX is actually affordable.

A nice 993 may fall in that range by then, <--my vote. I am also a big Elise fan, they will start a street-legal version Lotus for '03 I believe b/c the Esprit will be phased out. An E36 M3 is of the most fun cars out there, good torque, great handling, and a back seat!
Or you could buy 3 more 951's

Lemon Yellow 87 n/a has the right idea -- track the 951 and get an Audi S4 as the ultimate daily driver. It's tune-able (320HP, 370 ft-lbs torque with chip and exhaust) and the Quattro will get you thru all kinds of nasty weather!

The following is my opinion and my opinion only:
1997-1999 Range Rover 4.6 HSE
--best offroad suv-depreciates too much
1995 Lotus Esprit S4S
--nice but V8 better-would only buy if I had a grip of cash.
1979 Porsche 911 Turbo
--89 has 5spd, definitely a keeper
1990-1994 Porsche Carrera 2/4
--prefer 96-98 993
1989 Porsche 944 Turbo S
--when I first drove this car,i was stunned, like when my girlfriend hits me, definitely a keeper.
1997 Volvo 850 R/T5R
--prefer an S4 avant
1995-1999 BMW M3
--very nice car, leased one for 3 yrs, but in the end I decided on keeping the 89 951
1991-1995 Acura NSX
--no comment
? Audi A4/S4
--S4 in Nogaro blue
1992-1994 Porsche RS America
--no comment
too many cars, not enough money
Personally, I'd get the 89 944 turbo

If it were my garage I'd need my european and my american. However from you list it appears there is no room for an american powered car. For me I would miss the deep v8 gurgle (Ultima GTR?).

thanks for all your input guys! I really agree with the S4 idea, they do make them in a manual dont they?
the range rover is in the list because they depreciate so much. i drove one and really liked how well the interior stays together and how visually impressive of an suv it is.
the 79 930 has always been my dream porsche.
the nsx/m3 i think would prove to be reliable exotic daily transport.
the 89 951 I would love to own, but ive got a 86 951..so I doubt id have 2..unless i had a 3rd car then definately
the lotus elise i hadnt thought of..not so much daily transport though..would have to be the weekend car and make the 951 daily driven, prob wouldnt work.
volvo..good looks, reliable, decent power, nice price.
btw..im sure any car purchased would be modified. take that into consideration. i feel you could mod the nsx,m3,volvo,s4 w/o loss in reliabilty...
keep em coming..i love it!
