There are a pretty active group of 944 enthusiasts in Chicago. If yo check the email lists, every other thursday they get together for beers downtown. Check the archives for names, i am sure they would be
able to help you out.

Hey good to hear there are some 944 enthusiasts in Chi town. Im new to the 944 game. I just bought an 87 944NA. It has a bad trans but i got one comin in from this guy parting out his 86 944. I also have a starter problem. A friend and I took the starter out yesterday because the solenoid wasnt working. But we bypassed it just to get the engine running. But it was makin this really loud screeching sound. A few ppl told me it might be that the pinion gear isnt retracting properly. When i bench tested it, the pinion gear was moving, but it wasnt really snapping in and out (thats what its suppposed to do correct?) Well anyways, im just looking to find some guys who have worked on the 944 and might be willing to give me a hand. Especially when my tranny comes in sometime this week.
