Hi guys,
I don't mean to start a fuss, or cause any problems, but I was just thinking as to what are some of the advantages of owning a 944 NA over a 951? Besides lower insurance costs and a bit lower maintenance, is their anything else? I may be able to sell my 944 and pick up a 951 for the same money...that's why I ask!
Thanks
Mike
1984 944, possibly 951???? Possibly both..I WISH!

The 944 turbo is a much better car overall, there's no comparison IMO.
However, a naturally aspirated 944 can have advantages of the 944 turbo, such as instantaneous throttle response (albeit with much less power on tap), and perhaps better slalom speed, slightly better 'tossability', but that's about it...

I would say the updated look of the turbo body is worth the changeover all by itself. The front end is unarguably better looking and the rear valance is a subtle improvement.
Further, the turbo will have 16" wheels.
It would be a tougher decision if you were trying to decide between an S2 and a Turbo, but IMHO there is no thinking that needs to be done to choose a Turbo over a NA. And I have had both.

I know that this is not for which you are fishing, but I think it warrants saying:
The brakes are better on the 951. If it is a newer 951, it will have ABS.
If you plan on doing track events, the brakes will make a world of difference in your ability to slow the car again, and again, and again, and again.
On the street, it can make the difference between wreck/no-wreck. I had one emergency stop when someone pulled out in front of me from between two big trucks (I did not see them and they did not see me) and had I not had the tremendous braking power and ABS of the Brembo brakes I would have nailed the other car.
Never underestimate the power of good brakes.

IMHO, the cost of repairs and parts are about the same for the 951. Most of the common failures are common to both cars - clutches, transmission, water pumps, etc.
