Post '95 993 brakes on a 944

A few questions for the conversions experts:

1. What would I have to do to install a set of stock brakes from a 1995 993 to a 944 n/a?

2. Are the hubs the correct distance from the spindles?

3. Can I reuse the 16" Factory Club Sport wheels or do I have to upgrade to 17"?

4. Will the parking brakes have to be modified in the rear?

I am prepared to have brackets made for the calipers to mount, if necessary. I am not sure where to start (or finish, for that matter). Please help if you have any experience or technical knowledge on this swap.

First off, I guess we can assume you are getting some kind of great deal? There are kits to bolt Big reds onto your car. You will probably need 17s and your e-brake shouldnt change (dont quote me).

Are the 993 calipers Radial mounted up front? I think they are, arent they?

You will have to change your front struts/ hub assy as well. Then there is a concern about the ball joint size into the new hub assy.

Have you considered buying a 951?

Renntag-
Thanks for the responses. I should admit that I am doing some modifications to my VW Beetle again. I have plans to install 944 front hubs (w/ custon bearing adapters), 944 rear hubs w/ parking brakes, and 993 brakes and calipers(because of a deal I am trying to make). These stock Porsche parts are a huge upgrade to my current discs/drums. Is this project feasible?

Those diagrams are great. Is there a CD-ROM that has these? I have a CD with all stock VW parts from the 50's to today, air and water cooled. How can I get a copy of the Porsche version? Is there any way to get technical drawings w/ dimensions?

The 993 rear rotors have to short hats for the 968 rear spindles, i have tried bot 993 and 993 turbo on my 968 rear spindles. It won't cover the e-brake shoes, thus mount to faer away from the caliper. On front you should be fine as long as you use an adapter for the calipers. The 993 and 968 rear rotors are identical in size 299mm * 24mm, only difference is that the 993's are perforated like the 968 M030. In addition to hat size ofcourse.

How about '82 911 hubs? Will the 993 rotors reach over the parking brakes on them? I know the early 944 trailing arms are the same as my VW ones. This means I can install the 944 hubs with no mods. How do the 911's compare? Are the bearing inside diameters the same so I can use them instead? I am open to any suggestions that would make the 993 brakes work.

I got the VW parts CD a few weeks ago. They are on ebay alot for around $20. I would be willing to send you a copy if you have the Porsche one to send me. Even if you don't, if you let me know your address, I will send you a copy. I haven't used it much because the program uses a huge resolution for the monitor, 1280x1024, and I only use 800x600.

Do you have a CD with Porsche parts? How about a resource for dimensional drawings of parts?

My Beetle project is a '56 body mounted on a '69 floorpan. I would like to install Porsche brakes, because they are better than stock VW brakes of the time. (They are most likely better than all VW brakes, but you won't hear me admit that ) Also, stock Porsche brakes can be had fairly cheap due to owners upgrading; same for the wheels.

I am keeping my stock trailing arms (which are the same as 944 steel ones) so I thought it would be easiest to install 944 hubs with the 993 rotors. Is there a better way to do this? I am open to any suggestions.
