Post Engine swap

Has anyone here done a 951 engine or a 968 engine into a 944 NA? I know this topic probably comes up every week and i know its cheeper just to buy the 951 but i am very curious about the process. If you have done this please let me know.

Thanks Andre

Tabor is doing a 968 3L into his 87 944 na. Maybe ask him how he's doing.

It can be done. The engine will bolt right in. You need a little bit of custom wireing work. I have not started to put mine in yet. I will document it for sure!

Thats awesome. Keep me posted on your progress. How much did the engine cost?where did you get it?do you even have it yet?are you using the regular tranny or the 6 sp of the 968?

So far I have spent $3200 on this engine, but I am not done. The engine is on an engine stand in my garage right now. Check out the pictures. I am going to keep my stock 944 NA tranny.

What else do you have to get?Why did you decide to stick with the 944 tranny?

More important what made you get the 968 engine instead of buying a 951 like everyone says?

Sorry about all the questions, but i'm very interested

Mainly because it really is cheaper to put a 968 engine in a 944 NA than to buy a good 968. And I do not like turbo charged engines. Actually, some turbo charged engines are okay, but I would have to do a lot to like a 951.

Also 951 prices are going back up. But on the other hand, 968 prices continue to drop. Huntley Racing installed a 951 engine in a 944 NA for a client.

I'm doing the same swap, mine is going into an 87 944S. I'm also keeping the stock transmission.

Those are my thoughts too, i dont like the lag and i am not going to be hitting speeds of over 100 too often....so the turbo(that is at its peak performance at high speeds) isnt' really for me. but i do want more power than my 86 has right now.

Mike did you buy the engine already too?if so....how much?did you get it at a junk yard from a wreck?
