Fletch...

Please tell me about the high-pressure fuel line replacement or e-mail me! My mechanic, who I picked off of your website, says that my Regulator return hose that holds fuel at 40 psi ( i think ) needs to be replaced with the updated one. It's the short one on the passenger side of the engine by the vent nut for the radiator. Do you have a write-up about that?

Thanks!

SM,
The pressure line is one line from the fuel dampener to the fuel filter. It's about 12 feet long. If you were to replace the entire line you would have to drop the torsion bar tube. That would take me at least a day just to get out.

Porsche offers the line in 2 parts, and connects them via a compression fitting. To upgrade a car you would need to replace both lines, and in that case you back to dropping the torsion tube. To retrofit the front half of the 2pc system to the back half of the 1 pc system is what I did. You use a pipe cutter to cut the front half of the line off, purchase the front section of the new 2pc system and connect the 2 under the car where they meet. Use the coupler Porsche suppliers (sorry I can’t remember the number). The coupler comes with a nut and farrel to install on the old line, tighten the 2 together and check for leaks.

You will need to remove the fender liner and the metal keepers that hold the line to the chassis. Count on the plastic nuts breaking in the keepers, they are cheap so get about 3 new ones.

I have a few pictures but nothing in writing.
Hope that helps.

Perry

The 911 and Porsche World magazine have an article on rebuilding ball joints in the most recent issue (just received by post).

This gives some options and contacts.

Good hunting!

I just bought a turbo off of Sloan and was talking with him about the ball joints. He says they are just like the ones used on the turbo cup cars and that it is not too difficult to install them. He had them made using a cup car one as a template. I believe he has 50 sets left. Sloan seems like a really good guy on the phone and I can't wait to get my new turbo. His shop is SSI Service and Performance in Aberdeen, MD.
