manual rack or power rack?

True about the alignment! Mine is way off since I eyeballed it after swapping in the rack. One I get the aforementioned tires, it will be done. Only put 130 km on it with the new rack, and most of that was to go get the emissions test.

So have we surmised that:
Manual stock rack is 4 turns
Manual quick rack 3.5 turns
Power rack 3 turns
That would make sense.

I think my power rack was 3.5 turns lock to lock. I can't test right now as it's not in the car. This was with a, '87, late offset, non-turbo car.
On the adjuster, my understanding was this is to eliminate play. I suppose if you over do the adjustment too tight, it would make turning the wheel harder. But mine's set right at the verge of there being play, can't go any looser. Oh, and I use a 350mm Momo wheel, 255 r-comp tires, 17x9 ET55 wheels, lots of camber and lots of caster.

Yeah, I love my manual rack too. In parking lots it's noticeably different than power steering but it's not a big deal to me. Maybe if you are an old woman it would be hard to turn.
I picked mine up for 50 bucks I think lol. And picked up a manual shaft from bay for another 50.
I think you'll like it, plus with no power steering you never have to worry about leaks again, and easier to drop the crossmember, and more room under neath when you remove the pump and hoses.

You did get a good deal! They seem to sell for $200-$300 with the shaft. Like anything 20+ years old you have to make sure they are not worn or the nla shaft bearings are still tight. If there is any play in the rack or the shaft bearings just wobble about, walk away.

Got mine with intermediate shaft, for 200 shipped to my door. Beware that the rack gear can actually bend in the event of a front end collision, or even slamming into a curb. So check for that, or the steering will be very tight, and will not go to neutral.
