Default Water Pump, Belts, Rollers, Seals job...

starts in 5 minutes.

First time job for me.

Have watched Van's videos countless times.

Practically have the Clark's Garage procedures memorized.

Nothing left to do but dive in, I guess.

Wish me luck!

Good luck, I don't think you will need it though, sounds like you are well equipped to do the job. You had the right mind set by reading and studying in advance!!! First time is always nerve wrecking.

As usual, the job took longer than I planned....so long, in fact, that I'm breaking for the day and will finish it tomorrow.

Really nothing left to do but put the belts back on, adjust tension, refill coolant and crank her up....after turning her over by hand a couple of revolutions to make sure I didn't screw anything up with my TDC settings.

Water pump was definitely toast. Drive pulley turnes independent of the impeller.

No real hitches today. Finish it up in the morning and take her for a drive.

More to follow when complete, as well as an obligatory pic or two.

Stay tuned!

Well, job done.

Closing thoughts:

1. Not as frightening a job as I had envisioned. Of course, all of the research and learning beforehand probably had a lot to do with that.

2. Van's videos, Clark's Garage, and of course this Community, are invaluable resources.

3. Mine has the spring tensioner...getting that top nut started for the re-install can be a real beyotch....patience is your friend.

4. Even though the supposed half-day job ended up taking me two, it was two days well spent with my 17-year old daughter who is the heir-apparent to the car.

5. Obligatory pic below. Let's just say there were more valued outcomes than a functional car at the end of the weekend. Nuff said.

How cool! Looks like a nice garage to work in, too.

Haven't checked the maintenance records lately, but the project was due this summer. Actually failed late last year, though. Just been focusing on getting the 951 back on the road before getting back to the 944.

Outstanding that you're sharing. The next time you do this, it'll take 1/2 the time. My daughter and I spent a weekend with me showing her how to work on her bike (Suzuki). I let her do a lot of the work and acted as the instructor. Great bonding.
