Which car do you think looks more like a 944...?
... RX7, 240 SX, Supra? All of the above/None of the above. I have to pose this question as somebody mistook my car for an RX7 the other day which I'm sure is a common mistake. Just a fun question to ponder......

I was actually thinking of buying an rx7 but I just read up on them and found out that engine reliability is the pits. :/ I think you're right 86-92 are second gen, and there are turbo II's as well in there.

I have the Issue of R&T from xx/86 which compared the 944 & RX7. Mazda came right out in the press release and stated that the 944 was the target. R&T's take was that they succeded numbers wise, but the feel just wasn't there.

I thought it was common knowledge Mazda copied the 924 and I think a Lamborgini for the first genteration RX7, and blatently copied the 944 for the second.
Take a look in my driveway when my 90 RX7 convert. is parked in between the two 944's.
Reliability of the RX7 na is superior to that of the 944. Maybe the magazines say mazda didn't get the feel right, but I prefer the feel of the RX7, and the RX7 is more comfortable. In fact my wife and brother drive the three cars regularly, and agree too.
Im sure the 944 would do a little better on the track, but for everyday driving, The RX is the winner.

I think those Mitsu Starions look almost exactly like 944s, only more boxy and angular. Also, Daytonas and 2nd gen RX-7s (with spoilers) are very similar.

The list of manufacturers that copied the 924/944 is huge. I remember a guy I knew in 1985 told me he had bought his 84 Dodge Daytona (maybe it was called a Charger?) because it looked like a 944. I almost laughed at him.
All of those cars were pretenders, from the Gen II RX-7, to the Daytona and Conquest/Starion, to the first Ford Probe. With the possible exception of the RX-7, they were all junk. Some were fast, but how many people spend time on bulletin boards discussing their 86 Starions?
Please

Hey Ralph - actually there is quite an internet following for the Starions, much like this! (besides, that's where our balance shaft design comes from...). In fact, I've been kinda following their racers' concept of removing the balance shaft system to raise the oil pressure and protect the rod bearings... etc. etc.
