Who's fooling who here???
Whoever I've asked in the past tells me (and I'm no mechanical wizard) that a gain of about 10hp max 15 is possible by re-chipping my 89 944S2. I've looked around and have got a spec sheet from Weltmeister and I quote....
" After you install a Weltmeister chip on your 944S2, you'll see a 22hp peak gain(11%) at 5500rpm with an average gain of 18hp within the 3500 - 6000 range. Theses gains are accompanied by a substancial increase in low-end torque"
There is a table and a Dynamometer graph supporting it.
There is a company here in the UK that claims about 12-15hp increase by actually re-mapping the chip to suit the car. There is another that will give you a chip said to increase output by 10hp.
Does Weltmeister (who seem to be a pretty well known company in the US) have a chip thats the worlds best kept secret or am I fooling myself.
Opinions would be useful, facts better, I am about to confirm my order!
Thanks

Dear Bill,
If you get 10HP at the flywheel for a NA 944, out of any of these deals, coun´t yourself very lucky indeed. The world is full of very disappointed people who have purchased these wonder chips from many manufacturers. The facts are, they in themselves do very little. Any improvements have to be in concert with many other modifications and you will still be lucky to get more than 10HP unless you spend a large amounts of money. The truth is 2HP on the wheels is normal for a chip replacement only,

PS: The turbocharged engine benefits most from chip replacements.

I chipped my 87 944 and might have seen a small increase in power. However the biggest benifit I see is the increased redline, somewhere around 7K. For me this is important in that I drive a couple times a year on a closed track and the increased redline allows me to get between two corners without shifting. I don't use the extra RPM on the street however and do expect to see reduced engine life. But a hobby is a hobby and these cars are fun on the track or street!
