Default Boy, do I feel stupid

So I'm mid suspension refresh. I've been buying parts with every check for the last two months getting my ducks in a row to get my fronts in order. (Strut inserts, bushings, balljoints)

Turns out I bought late model strut inserts and the 85.5 needs early inserts. Realized my mistake *after* having pulled the strut assembly and cut the collar off.

. . . should have done more reading about my strange-year'd 944. Let this be a lesson to everyone else.

/rant. Thanks for listening, everyone.

They might fit, maybe with the threaded lower bolt hole sawn off.

No, there's no way to make it work. Or I'd have done it! lol. Luckily for me (and all of us, really) Jason at Paragon is a great guy and was willing to work with me to get my car back on the ground.

On a positive note, now you know whenever you need to touch the struts you don't have to remove them again or get an alignment

Any time I need to buy anything for an '85 or '86, I triple check the part numbers, the application guides on 3 different sites, and search on Rennlist.

This is why I have an '84 and an '87.

Gaw,

Noticed that you changed your tagline: does this mean I can be the 'worst mechanic you've never met' now?
I had thought about changing my tagline to something not unlike:

'If Gawernator is the worst mechanic then I taught him everything he knows.'

'Do as I say--not as I do!'

'The second worst mechanic you'll never know.'

Ideas greatly accepted.

I'm not sure how to change it from "Addict", it's still the same on Pelican and not likely to change for some time xD

Ok, more questions from the garage. These 1038S have no bolt hole at the bottom, but there doesn't seem to be a way to secure them at the top of the remaining strut housing. Is this normal, or did I screw up my strut housings?

My '83 has a cap that screws on to the top of the strut housing to secure the insert. Did you chop that off?

Yes, mikemeyers924s, I chopped the tops off of both of them, following the instructions for the late-model struts. I'm gonna hit the local junkyard right now to see if I can yank a set of struts.
