Post Tinting Windows Myself

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone here has ever tried tinting their cars on their own. I went to a local shop today and was looking at a bill of about 175CDN for tints (not even the higher end tints)
Anyways, I figured why not give it a try and see what gives. Anyone have any experience in this domain, or know how much money I'd be saving if I do it on my own?
Thanks
Mike

i was given an est of $285.00! ouch!!!! guy said it was because of the back window. he uses strips and butt joints them with the defrost wires.(instead of lapping) says it takes him 3-4 hours on just the back. i think the sides would be pretty easy but he backs going to be a pita!

I paid $175 to have mine done at a local shop and it took them two tries to get the back glass to look good and they are pro's.

I spent several weekends getting the PO's crummy tint job off my 83 944. I like the tinted look, but a bad tint job is MUCH worst than no tint at all. Besides, don't you want everyone to see you driving that Porsche!

$175 CDN is not a bad deal at all for a pro tinting job. I installed the tinting on my old Escort years ago, and that was a major PITA even with a relatively flat back window.

If you feel like the the price is high, I suggest you get a roll of tint and try and do just one window to see how long it takes you. For lack of a better term, it's real "bitch" work--worse even than detailing, in my opinion.

After a few hours of lying on your back inside the hatch, spraying soapy water on the windows and slicing up your hands and interior with a razor blade, that $175 won't seem like such a bad deal after all. Trust me, I've been there before!
