things to replace while under car
well, i presently have a decent amount of stuff removed from under my engine, and i wanted to pose a question as to suggestions of stuff to check while i'm under there.
i'll be replacing my power steering reservior... what should i check to see if i need to replace hoses?
what should i look at on the suspension bushings to see if they look ok? i took the sway bar out and its bushings seemed soft and pliable, not hardened or cracked or anything.
how about radiator hoses? none of them are leaking, but can i check to see if failure is imminent? it sure would be easy to replace them now while all the coolant is out.
damn you (uh, i mean us!) west coasterners sure have it easy!!! i had to laugh out loud when it first occured to me that i had removed a suspension component from a 15 year old vehicle by cracking loose the bolt with a wrench and then unscrewing it BY HAND!!!! back in the land of salted roads there's nothing underneath a car that has seen 2 or 3 winters that comes off without an impact wrench and a torch. i bet if i took my ford to a mechanic out here they wouldn't even know what to do...

well, i took the reservior out 'cause it was leaking like a seive and i wanted to make it not. then some thread got started on here this past week in which it was said that the filter in there is only good for 60k... and i'm at about 65 so i figured i might as well cough up the 40 bucks and maybe save my rack for a few more years.
i'm hoping with a new gasket and some tight hose clamps the leaks will be gone.
(crosses fingers)

Ben, sounds like you're under the front. When you get under the back, check your CV boots for cracks & lines of slung-out grease on the udersid of the body in he plane of their rotation.
Also a good time to drain & refill the transaxle, if you don't know when it was last done. A tip from Hans... be sure you can get the fill plug loose _before_ you take the drain plug out ...
Jim, enuff , time for shower diner, & dancin'...

BS,
Yeah, but we never have to buy table salt where I live. We just sweep some off the street after the snowplow and salt truck goes by.
Mike "no wrench necessary...burn'em out, burn'em off country"
