John, I was just teasing. Gotta be careful when you start tossing around comments like "the ONLY Honda"--some of them new CBRs are damned mean.

Guys lets face the facts......the only Honda that will even begin to compete with any of the new Porsches is the S2000 or the NSX. I don't for a minute believe a Civic destroyed a 996. The Civic would have to have been HIGHLY modified, like a huge turbo and the like.
PS I have chased many a bike on tight back roads and through off ramps. Their only advantage is a great power to weight ratio, which translates into rapid accelleration. Bikes have no advantage over a car in the corner........but I wouldn't kick a Ducati Monster out of my garage

You guys are funny.
Go to the track sometime. There are always Hondas in the mix up front.
and BMWs, etc. etc...
This is starting to sound like a domestic 1/4 mile, 0-60 argument...

We keep comparing apples and oranges here. Many people want to compare slolom times in road tests as indicators of overall performance. If that's the case, then the WRX will smoke a Ferrari F50 aroud the track. Do any of us believe that?
As far as bikes vs cars go, the bikes are much "faster" but require far more skill to actually ride fast. Motor Trend did a test a few years ago where they went to Willow Springs (I think) and tested a Viper against a Yamaha R1 (I think). When the two professional drivers (riders) went head to head, the Viper was about 1.5 seconds slower around the track. When the novices (not racers but very accomplished riders) got on the bike, and the author got in the Viper, the differerence was huge. I think the Viper was 8 to 10 seconds faster around the track.
Bottom Line: It's all relative. Read the latest Exellence article comparing a bone stock 996 C4 to the Speedvision GT3. Once again, it came down to the driver.

A couple of months ago at the Streets of Willow Springs course, there was a guy in a CRX that just BLEW everyone away. I was getting times of about 1:40 on the new course. Modified Vipers, RX-7TTs and 996s were walking away from me with times of 1:35. Being caught in the exhaust flames of those Vipers and RX-7s as they passed me was quite an interesting experience.
Anyway, the CRX outdid them with times in the 1:30-1:31 range. Estimates were that his car weighed about 1800lbs. With 220 Type-R HP on R-compound tires, that's tough to beat.

Correction to my post fellas.
The car is a Civic EX with a 1.8L VTECH Honda engine, not the stock engine, it replaced the original. What kind of numbers am I looking at here? IT has no other modifications.

I believe the bike in that article was a Honda VFR 800. I'll have to check back through my magazine collection. Also for those that do not know the VFR is considered a Sport Tourer not your straight up R bike like the R1.
Also they did a street test up one of there favorite mountain roads. The Viper killed the bike. More margin for error.

I say Craig's still going to get his butt kicked. Why don't you just sign up for some track time and get the adrenaline rush there and save your license?
