This has quickly become hilarious, you mean it's unsteady around 68-70 mph in a straight line? I went to 110 MPH yesterday and it's rock solid.. some of the back roads here do pretty well in turns near those speeds :P

Sounds like you may have some suspension issues. I'd check everything

It can depend on the tires as well, my car is all over the place on direzzas if the surface is uneven. On smooth pavement its solid.

For bushings, I wouldn't limit it to sway bar bushings. At least give the wheel a good wiggle and replace anything that flops around. If you can spare the cash go ahead and replace the castor blocks (rubber bits on the lower rear of the front lower control arm) and the front lower control arm bushings. Neither are particularly expensive. Check ball joints for play and replace as needed. Dito for upper strut mounts.
I live in the rockies and have gone up I-70 from denver to the Tunnel many many times in my old 924S. You can use 5th if you keep the speed at 80, but you do need to drop down to 4th if you lose momentum (a-holes cutting you off to go 60) as it drops you out of the powerband on a fairly steep incline. My 944S does not suffer quite as much due to the extra power, but the taller gearing hurts it too, so it also requires 4th gear use.

If your 85.5 is a speedboat at 70mph, immediately get a shop to diagnose why.
Ball joints, caster blocks, oily sway bushes and tie rods are likely culprits.
Does Canada not require annual safety inspections like Virginia does mate?
i was exaggerating a bit, I think there is too much body roll on turns. ball joints tie rods are all pretty much brand new. i might need an allignment. I know front sway bar bushings are toast from years of power steering leaks (now it's a manual rack).

no 70 mph in a straight line is fine. straight line isn't really an issue. I had it up to 180km/h for a bit on a long stretch of road and it was okay. it just feels like it wants to let go around turns above.

i've never even seen a car get a safety inspection at transfer.... i know cars need to pass safety inspection when they are imported into canada.

I think the tires I got suck too. they are firestone precision sports. I noticed the car does drive much better on smoother roads.

yeah this is what I experienced. when not going uphill my car easily goes up to 180/190 in 5th but going uphill in higher elevations the engine just doesn't make enough power to accelerate in 5th. l did downshift to 4th going uphill.

Tim...you've had 924s and 944s for YEARS...you're actually older in the 924/44 business than many people around...i simply dont get it how you can get into these discussions...and how can you not diagnose a problem like that by simply looking under your car..thats why i'm rude.

Fine, check bushings with tip of screwdriver to see if they are soft(dont push to hard eh?)...if they are soft like marshmallows..they need replacement. Replace shocks. Check alignment, check tire pressures and if you're running on 205/65(60 or 55)/15 then its normal to get lower traction and boat like movement in certain conditions from such tire sizes.

Regarding fifth gear going uphil and not going over 120....5th gear should get you up most uphills as long as the revs read 3500 or more(unless you're driving a turbo-diesel, most cars will behave the same)...but i think 120km/h is under 3500RPM isnt it? next time you drive there, try fifth gear but first rev 4th higher so you shift into 5th and you're at 3700RPM....if even then the car wont climb then your engine might need a rebuild.
