Quick Fix for Shifting Chatter
Here is a quick fix for shifting chatter.
Quick fix for 944, 924:
Remove shift **** boots and and shift rod from shifter, lubricate the pin with bearing grease. Then use two plastic washers, thinner than a dime with an inside diameter slightly larger than the pin. Place each washer on the pin with the shift rod in the middle. This will deaden any rattling. I could not find what I wanted to I made the washer out of the lid of a plastic container.
To further minimize the rattling, check the shift linkage on top of the transaxle and tighten the bracket that runs from the right side of the transaxle to the tip of the intermediate shift rod linkage. As the car ages these rubber gaskets soften and there is metal to metal contact, hence the vibration.
Cost $0 Effort 5. I had two different mechanics try to diagnose this problem $$$$ and they were wrong.
