944 HELP!!!
Hey everyone, I have an 83' 944 that recently just stopped running. It started to stutter for a moment, then about 2 minutes later it shut off and hasn't started since.
My fuel pump is not turning on. If I give it power using my power probe the fuel pump runs fine. The fuse is fine, and the dme relay is fine. I even replaced it to be sure. I'm not getting power from the dme to the dme relay. If I give it 12 volts there, the pump runs, and I can even start and rev it as long as I keep givong 12 volts.
What could be the problem?
Do all 944's have a factory alarm?
Thanks!

No not all 944s have factory alarm. try bypassing it if you have one.

On an early if you have an alarm there is an extra lock in the rear quarter panel behind the door. If you don't have that I doubt you have an alarm. I would try to find another known good DME. You can use one from a later 944 if you swap the AFM to.

Based on my understanding of OmniNinja's post, it is highly unlikely the dme is the problem. The dme portion of the relay feeds the dme power, then the dme feeds the fuel pump portion of the relay the ground needed to activate the switch that sends battery voltage to the pump. Since the dme doesn't feed power, adding power doesn't point to a bad dme. If you tell me what points you are adding power to, I can tell you what to test next to find the problem. It is not a good idea to run the pump off of the ignition switch, the amp draw will kill the switch.

This speed/reference sensor couldn't possibly be the problem because the car runs when jumpered out. There is no way to jumper out or bypass a speed or reference sensor. The engine will not run without them.

the DME should be providing a ground to the relay in order for it to switch power to the pump. It doesn't provide a 12v signal to the relay. This from clarks garage should help. See if the 85b pin on the harness side ohms to ground while the fuel pump is jumpered / car running. If so you may have two bad relays?
