Question Hose Question

This morning when I went out to my car to go to work, I noticed that a rubber hose, the one that runs along the beneath the driver's side door, was just hanging down. Evidently there are plastic tie clips that hold it to the body. It was open on the rear most end and went to about where the door opens. It didn't look like it was cut at the end or anything. I guessed it was some sort of drainage hose and that it didn't need to really be that long. Anyhow, I didn't have anything to tie it back up with, and was already running late for work so I just cut it off a couple of inches from where it appeared to drop down from the engine compartment, so it wouldn't drag along the ground. There weren't any fluid residues in it and it looked harmless. What does this hose actually do, and did it matter too much that it is not as long as it used to be? Thanks a lot.

Most likely the evap emissions canister vent hose (from left side wheelwell). As you suspected, it doesn't really matter.

Yeah it came down from the left side wheelwell. Thanks a lot Skip, glad to hear no major problem.
