Tire choices.....Please help decide.
I need to replace my tires and am trying to decide between these choices:
Bridgestone RE-730
Sumitomo HTRZ-II
Falken Azenis RS (Assymetrical)
(New Info) I forgot to add that I have 17" Cup wheels so the prices are a bit higher for the good rubber.
Thanks for any help,
Daniel

Another vote for the RE-730's, have them on my 85.5 and am putting same on the 87 951, stick like glue in all conditions and quiet to boot.Running C-2 Turbo wheels, 17" and have not lost any comfort either.

Any of you guys using the RE-730s ever try the Kumho? For comparison sake? I am allways willing to try something different. The 730s arent very expensive at all.
Pano or somebody needs to compare these...preferably on a 951.

I have Kumho Ecsta 712s on my 18" wheels (Boxster S).
And I have Sumitomo HTRZ-II's on my 17" C2 wheels (944).
And the winner is...
Sumitomo!
Maybe it's because one of my Boxster wheel rims is bent (yeah, that's probably it), but my 944 on Sumitomo handles GREAT. I am very impressed with the ride quality.
Now, my Boxster also has 030 suspension...and the 18" wheels are arguably less forgiving that 17". So take it for what it's worth.
But when I replace the tires on my Boxster next time, I'll probably go with Sumitomo.

I love my Toyo T1-S
These are 225/50/15 on an '86.
Now if I were to buy new tires again, I would get the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 as it is the top-rated Max Performance tire on Tire Rack's site. The S-03 RE-730 and T1-S are within $10 of each other.

Anybody ever compare these tires to the Yokohama AVS Sports? I've had the AVS Sports on my car now for about 9 months of aggressive driving (10,000 miles) and had them on my -previous- 944 NA for a year and 12,000 miles, and they're wearing great, and still have good traction. Maybe "too" firm, but they're worthy of positive mention.

What kind of budget are you on? The Sumitomo and Falken are the best value, so consider Khumo tires as well. The RE-730 are midrange price, which is why I recommend the Potenza S-03 as the survey results show that they are overall a better, just wears abit faster.

FWIW, the guys on the Boxster Board LOVE their Kumhos. Many people use them on the track as well as the street. I don't know if I am getting a fair assessment of them thanks to my 986's bent rim. I am encountering a lot of wheel vibration at high speeds in the Boxster. Once I get the bent wheel fixed, I will post further impressions of the Kumhos.
I have not done a lot of really hard cornering in the HTRZ-II's, but have been really impressed with the ride quality and the high speed handling. Seems to be a fine street tire.
Note that tirerack.com has some great user feedback on every tire. Kumhos are very highly regarded there.

Yeah, those S-03's are supposed to be really sweet tires. I have a friend with the 730's as well (they are on a '98 Honda Prelude). nice tires too, he is quite happy with them, they are more of a midrange tire though, not that that is bad. As I always say - if they are not everything you hoped for, it just gives you an excuse to run them hard and wear them out faster .

I have the 730's as well, great in the wet and very good in the dry. Great bang for your buck.
I agree with the S0-3's or Michelin Pilot Sport if on an unlimited budget but the prices are not within 10 bucks of each other (at least on tirerack for 225/45/16 $180 for S0-3, $125 for 730's)
