Default sudden bad leak from valve cover

I would do a search but rennlist search no longer works. On my 83 it just developed a bad leak coming from the rear of the valve cover and running down to the exhaust. Any common things to note here or did I just have a gasket go bad? I will post a pic soon.

Happens a lot, the cam box likes to do that. Just get a gasket and replace it.

The rear of the cam housing-aka valve cover- has a cork gasket that "always" leaks.

Or from his web site:

If you mean the big cam housing gasket-----see clarks and make sure you "wake up the bolts" and do not strip the heads!

I think you'll have to remove the timing belt from the cam sprocket in order to remove the cam tower, so you'll need to be comfortable with re-tensioning your timing belt.

This was the worst part. I locked the motor to TDC and marked the belt/pulley on the cam box so i could set it correctly. I did the cam box twice on my 924s and this was really the only part that worried me. It was never an issue however.

Small gasket on the back of the cover. Has a cork gasket that looks like a frog. Three 10mm head bolts hold the cover on. Pays to have a set of those ratchetting closed end wrenches.

Also before you delve too far into this, check and make sure all three 10mm bolts are there and that they are tight. A buddy of mine with an 84 was having this issue and found that one of the bolts was missing and the other two weren't very far past hand tight.
