I just replaced my supposedly bad DME unit with a "used" one (my old DME would not start my car or another "working" car). With a well-charged battery, I turn the ign key to ON and the DME relay chatters. I took the relay out and hotwired its two coils (one at a time) to 12V and ground (using the car's battery and some clip leads) and the two individual relays inside the DME relay close and open as they should.

Any ideas why the relay would chatter while in the car?
