Also, if your valve stem seals are "sucking" oil into the cylinders during compression braking you should see white smoke in your rear view mirror.

My engine was completely resealed when I rebuilt it, new rings, new valve stem seals. It doesn't leak any oil that I can see and there is no white smoke. Yet it still goes through the oil at the track. Not 4 qts a weekend though, so I expect you've got a leak somewhere externally. Go for the dye and blacklight, it should show up pretty well.

I was told that synthetic didn't smoke, just disappeared. I thought about putting in dinosaur oil and seeing what happened. (not really).

I never thought about it one way or the other (Synthetic oil smoking) A quick Google search does seem to point to the fact that it will indeed smoke.

Rather than going with a full dino oil change, maybe you just want to throw some mesquite chips in there

I don't know where these urban legends start. I'm sure you're ingesting it. For comparison, I go through about a quart on a track weekend.

When I said "didnt smoke", I didnt mean "doesnt burn". I'm going to try and shoot some photos of the underside tonight.

Here's some photos. Obviously it's hard to tell anything from this. Can't tell if the mess underneath is due to spillage down the oil neck that blew around or what.

Well yeah no **** they dont check oil level, but the way you were explaining loosing FOUR quarts of oil sounded like the bottom of your car would of had oil all over it. (A lot more than the pics shows.)

Well that was over the course of a 3 day weekend. I live about 60 miles from the track and go home every night. I did the math and I think it was about 800 miles over the weekend. I'm in the instructor group and am not driving lightly. In fact, I can see the difference between a slow and a fast session by how much I have to add between sessions. But this was off the charts.

Well that is truly strange. Your blow by isnt that bad, I was thinking the whole bottom would be coated. What is Porsche spec on burning oil, like a qt per 1000 miles?

I think the engine is due for some work, I'm afraid. I have to admit that I'm a little curious where it's all going, but in those photos I see what I suspect is a leaking pan gasket and upper balance shaft cover. Again, though, that doesn't explain a gallon of oil lost in one event.

I forgot to ask what the back bumper and tail lights look like. Are there many oil spots?

Also, if you can get the belly pan off, take a look at the oil cooler lines where they meet the filter console on the block. The (recent-looking) spots on the headers suggest that there may be a leak from around there.

You do have a pretty good leak there, although its not all coming from the RMS, and its not enough to account for 4 qts by itself. Engine looks to be wet further forward than what would normally just be a RMS leak. Agree, pull off the belly pan for a better view.

Probably want to clean it all off, spray wash it - then check for the leak origin(s).
