Hi guys,
I recently drove a BMW 325is 1988 and seemed to kick a lot more than my 1984 944. I was just curious as to the horsepower/weight comparision between each of these vehicles. Does anyone know the weight of a 1984 944, or know a website with it listed?
Thanks
Mike

One thing you may note with the 1984 944 (like mine) is that the car is shaped like a bullet. You don't necessarily get the "kick" of a 6-cyl car, but as speed increases, the 944 becomes "more equal" and in many cases "superior" to cars with more motor. Aerodynamics works in strange ways.
The 944 motor is a "rev machine". Stoplight take offs are NOT the forte of this motor. Third gear is the "giant killer" in these cars, with 4th being the follow up. At those speeds, aerodynamics gives the 944 quite an advantage, weight being equal. The BMW is essentially "a brick" at those speeds.

True enough sharkdog. I want to lower my 944, it would just lick the corners too! Passing at 60mph or 100kph seem so simple. I can get good jump from a light, but you have to ride the clutch and I absolutely hate to do that unless I really need to..., haha, but for the most part giving er' at the higher speeds is where this car does eat some pie. Now if only the Porche gods would bless me with 50 horses that don't come so hard to get, I would be one happy SOB. But what can you do, eh??!!

Hmmm... I think some of the 944 weight data on Kevin's page may be inaccurate. The earlier 944's were lighter that the later ones... and the earlier 944's were definitely lighter that the 944S2's.
As for the 3rd gear power... yeah, I have to agree. The 3rd gear power on my 924S feels more like most other cars' 2nd gears :-)
