Opinions On a Possible 944 Purchase
So after many countless hours on the phone with insurance companies, no one seems to want to insure my '84 NA because it has a rebuilt title (despite me having it previously insured as rebuilt).
However I managed to find another '84 NA in need of some repairs for $1500. Still trying to contact the seller but from the ad it definitely needs a fuel pump and slave cylinder, which are both new on my current car. Being a 30 year old car I'm also counting on it needing front end work (Tie rods, ball joints, bushings, etc.) all of which I just did on mine, and more than likely a timing belt.
Judging by the few pictures he has, what's your opinions?

I would go and look at it in person, if the car had work done to it why would you post up pictures of the tire flat and wiring hanging out in the cab? It would be a discourage to a possible buyer. If the work that is talked a bought in the ad was done then I would try and talk him down to $1000.00, $1250.00 would be a decent price in the middle for you and the seller. Keep us informed on your decision.

I do plan on going to look at the car tomorrow afternoon.
I'm hoping that because he's 16 he feels in way over his head with this, and just wants to get rid of it. I bought my first one when I was 16 and remember what a nightmare these cars are when you have no clue what you're doing!

The one good thing going for this car, if you were to purchase it, you have a very well kept parts car that sounds like it will never be able to see the road again. Not do to you or your keeping of the car, we lose one to save another. Good luck hope you luck out and get a good future 944.

to buy or not to buy.
You are looking for a headache but if you enjoy to stay busy on weekend then go for it. $1000. should be reasonable but I feel bad for the kid so $1200. sholuld be a reasonable for both parties.

Well, if you've got your current car to use to spiff the new one up, your probably doing alright. Your really just looking for a shell that doesn't have a vin that's marked rebuilt. Swap everything from your car over that you need to and your in business.
Just budget a bit of time to get that done. The entire front end is easy, less than an hour to do it as a full assembly. Its the other bits that will take more time.

Will there be any issues with border/customs from Canada? It may cost you as much for transportation as it will for the car purchase. Good luck if you decide to buy it.

Well I went and looked at it today, and it turned out to be in fair shape for the price. Long story short he took $1000 for the car (About as cheap as they'll ever come in Ontario).
It was stored in a barn for about 2 years before the kid bought it. He bought it from an older gentleman (In his 50s) who had bought the car in 2001. It is an American car, not sure from where though.
By looking at it the belts and hoses were all genuine Porsche, and they were newer. So I'm assuming it was serviced right before this kid bought it. Body is VERY good for its age. No dents/scratches/rust and very nice paint. Interior is pretty good for an early car, it does have a dash cover. Drivers seat needs attention, but the rest are good.
Mechanically, I already planned on doing the front end since I have all the parts. Same with the fuel pump and clutch slave cylinder. I'll more than likely do the t-belt just for the piece of mind. Also for some reason the vacuum lines were off the fuel pressure regulator and dampener. Not sure what he had going on there.
Option codes show Sport suspension/stabilizer bars, alarm (That works!) and leather interior. It also has option code H41 which I can't figure out.
All in all, I'm very pleased for $1000.
